Stir Fried Kau Fu with Assorted Vegetables Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 4 pieces of kau fu (2 inch square)

  • Oil for frying

Ingredients A:

  • 1/4 cup Chinese black mushrooms

  • 1/4 cup tiger lily (tied into knots)

  • 1/2 cup wood ears

  • 1/2 cup bamboo shoot slices

  • 1 cup sliced pressed bean curd

Ingredients B:

  • 1/2 tablespoon cooking wine or sherry

  • 1/2 tablespoon sesame oil

  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce

  • 1 tablespoon sugar

  • Dash of black pepper

  • Dash of sesame oil

  • 1 cup water

Method:

  1. Cut the kau fu into 1/3 inch slices. Heat the wok then add oil. Deep fry kau fu until golden brown; remove and drain. Put kau fu into a pot boiling water; cook for 3 minutes. Remove and squeeze the kau fu to remove excess water

  2. Place the kau fu, Ingredients A and Ingredients B in a deep pot; bring to a boil. Cover and turn heat to low; cook for 8 minutes. Remove to a serving plate; serve.

Kau fu is a spongy type of ingredient made from wheat gluten that may be stored for a long time. It may be found in the refrigerated section of markets, where bean curd is found.
