Chinese Home Style Tofu Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 2 cake firm tofu

  • 2 oz lean pork

  • 1 spring onion

  • 1 red chili

  • 1 wood ear, soaked for 20 minutes

  • 1/4 carrot

  • 2 cloves garlic, finely sliced

  • 1/2 cup water

  • 3 cups cooking oil

  • 1 tablespoon spicy bean paste or chili bean paste

  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce

  • 1/2 teaspoon sugar

  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch dissolved in 1 tablespoon water

  • 1/2 teaspoon sesame oil

Method:

  1. Cut the tofu diagonally into 8 pieces.

  2. Heat wok with cooking oil over medium heat. Add in tofu and fry for 3 minutes until golden brown. Drain and set aside

  3. Slice pork, carrot, wood ear, red chili into thin slices. Cut spring onion into 1 inch sections

  4. Heat wok with 1 tablespoon oil over medium heat. Fry spring onion and garlic until fragrant and then add in pork, and fry for 2 minutes

  5. Add in tofu, carrot, wood ear, red chili, water, bean paste, soy sauce and sugar, simmer for 5 minutes

  6. Mix in cornstarch mixture and stir until sauce is thickened. Add in sesame oil

  7. Ready to serve
