Chinese Style Beef Steak Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb beef tenderloin

  • 1 brown onion, shredded

Ingredients A:

  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce

  • 1 tablespoon water

  • 1 tablespoon cooking wine or sherry

  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch

Ingredients B:

  • 1 tablespoon sugar

  • 1 tablespoon white vinegar

  • 1 1/2 tablespoons ketchup

  • 2 tablespoon soy sauce

  • 3 tablespoons water

  • 1 hot red pepper, sliced diagonally

Method:

  1. Cut the beef into 6 slices. Tenderize the meat with a meat mallet to make each piece about 1/2 inch thick. Mix the meat with Ingredients A and marinate for 1 hour.

  2. Heat the wok then add 2 tablespoons oil. Fry the meat until both sides are golden brown; cook until medium done. Remove the meat; drain. Remove the oil from the wok

  3. Reheat the wok then add 3 tablespoons oil. Stir fry the brown onion until fragrant. Add Ingredients B and bring to boil. Add the meat; turn the heat to high and mix quickly. Remove to a serving plate and serve

To make the meat more tender, add 1/2 teaspoon baking soda to Ingredients A.

Pork tenderloin or pork chops may be used for this recipe.
